PowerPoint guidelines:

  • Refer to Ohio State’s visual identity and style guidelines.
  • Keep your slides simple. Avoid animations or fancy transitions.
  • Use branded colors, art and imagery.
  • Use Arial.
  • The rule of six. No more than six lines to a slide and six words to a line. Your own elucidating and enthralling words will fill in the rest.

Research Posters

Research is integral to Ohio State’s land grant mission. It is an essential component of the university’s goal of educating the next generation and solving some of the world’s most pressing issues. When research innovation happens on our campus, we want the world to know that Ohio State was a driving force behind these breakthroughs.

Research posters are one way we can ensure that Ohio State’s innovative role is at the forefront of any advancement. While the accomplishment is the most important part of the message, it’s also necessary to have a properly branded image that accurately reflects the academic excellence and professionalism inherent in the work. The easy-to-use poster templates are available on the brand site and can be customized to your area of focus. The basic poster/presentation includes the university’s minimum branding requirements, while an advanced version delivers all the branding bells and whistles. Although the templates are available in the most popular sizes and configurations, check with your conference or event organizers for specific requirements. There are basic templates and some with extras, but the unit is always welcome to customize to meet their needs.

Prezi is free, web-based presentation and perfect for telling a story. It works like a virtual whiteboard where words, images and objects can be freely configured. If you’re new to Prezi, take some time to get comfortable with it first. Prezi is not ideal if you’re planning to print your presentation.

Private: Only you can view and edit.
Hidden: You can view and edit. Anyone can view with the direct link. Public: This prezi can be seen by the world on and via the direct link. Reusable: This prezi is publicly reusable and can be viewed via the direct link.

Prezi guidelines:

  • Use Ohio State’s visual identity and style guidelines.
  • The Ohio State University logo and/or wordmark should only be included using Prezi’s “Custom Logo” option. This will ensure that each is displayed properly in the lower, left-hand corner of the screen regardless how the presentation is displayed.
  • For smooth transitions, place objects close together, use only subtle rotations, and avoid extreme size variations between frames.
  • Convert all images to .swf (flash) prior to inserting. This will prevent images from becoming pixelated when zooming in and out.
  • Be mindful image file sizes. Large files sizes can slow down a presentation or cause it become unresponsive. By default, Prezi will prompt users to automatically shrink image files and determine if large files are necessary.
  • Exporting a Prezi (to pdf) for distribution or printing is not recommended. The results are unpredictable. Elements do not always appear on paper as they do on screen.
